“The 2022 Chardonnay Diana’s is a blend of sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Sta. Rita Hills, Arroyo Grande Valley and Chalone AVAs. Aged for 17 months in 57% new French oak, the Diana’s is an opulent, concentrated wine with a spine of salinity braced against tropical inflections of pineapple, mango and papaya. A hint of reduction adds further intrigue, pushing this almost into the Old World realm, but there’s no denying the California sunshine. Rounded and sweet at its core, there’s just a ton of stuffing here; I sense this is holding a lot in reserve. I followed this bottle for three days, and it only got better. “This barrel selection is a beautiful rendition of classic California Chardonnay sourced from distinctive, cool growing areas of the state. Very flavorful with generous orchard and tropical fruit beautifully balanced by vivacious acidity and a grippy structure. While it sees a bit more new oak than Testarossa’s other Chardonnays, it’s seamlessly integrated and contributes to the full, rich mouthfeel. Sourced from Sta. “Dense yellow hue. Wonderful scents of ripe fig, apple, banana custard and butterscotch, followed by notes of lemon, apricot and brioche. Flavors of fig, apple, apricot and butterscotch are the greatest in strength, followed by, to a lesser extent, the remainder of the aroma profile. This very generous Chardonnay is luscious and dense with a subtle zest from the vibrant acidity. It finishes very polished, with subtle layers and some notes of minerality. This ‘best of the best’ barrel selection offers a densely concentrated palate with brisk acidity, keeping it balanced on the finish. “Medium straw hue. Generous scents of butterscotch, kiwi, mango, and grapefruit unite in this ‘best of the best’ barrel selection. These scents segue into brilliant arrays of the tropical fruit, citrus, and butterscotch. Brisk acidity and lush mouthfeel make for an epic experience. This wine just does not stop, with its long lingering finish. I dare say this is our best Diana’s Chardonnay to date. Drink now through 2020.”
